About

We've been the one holding the data, not just presenting it.

Layered Insights GIS grew out of years spent building and running a GIS program from a single desk — the kind of work where you find out fast which shortcuts hold up and which ones don't.

Approach

Practitioner-built, not platform-first.

A lot of GIS work goes sideways because it starts with a platform decision instead of a question about the data. We start with what you're trying to see and who needs to see it, then pick the tools that fit — Leaflet, ArcGIS Online, Python, whatever gets there cleanest.

That comes from experience on the operating side: building an enterprise GIS program across multiple sites essentially from scratch, and living with the consequences of every data decision made along the way.

How we work

  • One point of contact. No hand-offs between a sales team and a delivery team — you talk to the person doing the work.
  • Data that outlives the project. We build pipelines and standards meant to keep working after we leave, not a one-time deliverable.
  • Plain-language handoff. Documentation and training written for the person who inherits this system, not just the person who built it.
  • Right-sized tools. The simplest platform that solves the actual problem, not the most impressive one.
